Earth USA 2017 - Tours


Earth USA 2017
is organizing 1.5 days of tours to local earthbuilding sights of interest for conference participants and attendees. The first tour is a 1/2 day walking tour which will take place directly after the conference on Sunday afternoon, October 1. The second tour is a full day round trip bus tour with stops at a new construction rammed earth house, Fort Union National Monument, an adobe church restoration project in Mora County as well as a return drive to Santa Fe via the High Road with short stops in the villages of Tres Ritos, Vadito, Peñasco, Chamisal, Trampas, Truchas and Chimayo. Both tours will begin and end at the Scottish Rite Center in downtown Santa Fe.

The Sunday Afternoon Walking Tour of Santa Fe is free but limited to 50 people. Tour tickets for the full day bus tour can be purchased in advance online (see link below). At this time, we are limiting the number of bus tour tickets to 32 which will be sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. An additional 10 tour tickets might also be available if the 32 spots sell out but we encourage you to purchase your tour tickets online asap to reserve your spot.

Tentative Route and Approximate Times:

  • 2pm: walking tour group meets in front of the Scottish Rite Center
  • 2 to 5:30pm: tour of various historic (primarily) adobe buildings in downtown Santa Fe with Cornerstone's Jake Barrow as tour guide (main focus will be on recent work done on the San Miguel Mission)
  • 5:30 to 6pm: walk back to Scottish Rite Center or enjoy a refreshment with the group at a Santa Fe restaurant or bar (self pay)
